    This homemade version of Sloppy Joes is packed with veggies and has such great flavor! Your family will never ask for the Manwich variety again.

    Ingredients

    • 3 teaspoons olive oil, divided
    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 2 teaspoons all-natural steak seasoning
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or sucanat
    • ½ medium onion, finely chopped
    • 1 medium carrot, finely chopped or grated
    • 1 red pepper, finely chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 (8 ounce) cans unsalted tomato sauce
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
    • salt, to taste
    • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns (or 8 mini buns)
